Day 1 - Just arrived at the Puerto Montt airport. This is one of the last times Patrick has his Nalgene bottle in his possession
Jeff, Julie, Patrick and me - luggage! We were supposed to bring 30-40 lbs only (right Patrick?)
I'm SO hungry (but then again, when am I NOT hungry?)
Just arrived in Puerto Varas, about 20 min from Puerto Montt - me with El Volcan Osorno in the background and Llanquihue Lake (pronounce YankeeWay) in the foreground
First bar - the boys (Patrick, Jeff, and Jack from left to right) are happy to be in Chile!
Julie and I, patiently waiting for our Pisco Sour... The sun feels exquisite on my skin right about now (not so the next day after I get thoroughly burned)
Cheers!!! Pisco Sour, the must-drink for all gringos in Chile
Notice the empty glasses already
Hmmmm... Pisco sour...
Jack lives here.
Jack and me, post 3 pisco sours, eating ice cream
Ok, so in Chile a lot of things that we expect to come in a jar come in squeezable bags. Mayonnaise for example... Patrick is perplexed.
Patrick posing in front of a map
Some falls on the way to El Volcan Osorno. We look in awe as Jack picks his line in the rapid.
Hiking on the volcano. Patrick is right - this looks like we're posing for a music album cover...
Not the top of the volcano, but the top of where we were going to hike that day - we brought a picnic but not NEARLY enough water - we're hot, we're thirsty, and this is the only shade-worthy tree around, so this is where we have lunch.
Jeff and Jack at lunch
Patrick thinks we're going to drink wine. But we're too thirsty and hot to drink it.
On the way back down to El Lago Todos Los Santos for a dip in the cool water
Oops - I put sunscreen on my arms but forgot my neck. I will now look dumb the whole rest of the trip
FINALLY - back to the parking area, we beg for water at a hotel. They sell it to us for a ridiculously high price, but we're happy to drink it. Especially Patrick.
On the way back to Puerto Varas - Jeff and Jack think we're not looking and they're getting a little cozy...
Day 3 - on the way to Chaiten in the little plane. Here you can see Blake, Patrick, Sean, Paul and Jeff. Blake, Sean and Paul were 3 of the other 4 clients on the trip.
Here is me. I'm about to sleep for the remainder of the flight
In Chaiten - after lunch, we're waiting for the gas station to open so that we can get gas to start the 3-hour drive to camp.
Patrick, not so happy in the van
I can sleep ANYWHERE, including a bumpy 3-hour van ride on Chilean dirt roads. At least I wasn't drooling...
Just before camp, we stop to go "scout" a rapid called Mundaca. Notice the not-so-friendly portage I'll have to do later in the week after running Mundaca
First night at camp - after some wine, Patrick decides to go to the boats to find HIS boat...
Ooops - here's how you do a low brace, and keep your wine from spilling. that's the spirit!
Me, day 1 on the water (also day 4 of the trip)
After the warm-up session - I'm happy - the water is good, the scenery is breathtaking, and my legs are finally waking up.
Patrick after first session.
Love the Crocs!!!!
Siesta - this became my siesta spot all week.
Patrick and I goofing off before putting in for the 2nd session of Day 1
Paul - this was the first time he was "THAT GUY" - he forgot his sprayskirt
Rob (video guy) and Tyler tying on the boats.
Jeff posing for an underwear commercial, or something...
Patrick very happy after his first run of the McCall section. Julie butting in.
James (guide) riding the top of the van on the way home
Crossing the bridge for the put in of the Asleep at the Wheel section
Nevada, Tyler and Mariann's puppy - the KayakFu mascot
Valentine's Day - Ray had secretly given Patrick some chocolate to give me on Tuesday for V-day. A little melted but very very good...
